About this talk

There is wide recognition of the importance of clinical coding in the NHS and the key role it plays in the delivery of high-quality sustainable healthcare. The data generated is used for a variety of purposes including clinical audit, benchmarking, and health services planning. Patient-level costing (PLICS), Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) and the Model Hospital all rely on the accuracy of clinical coding for the provision of robust data. In November 2017 North Bristol NHS Trust’s clinical coding department achieved a critical internal audit report, with recommendations which were combined to form a departmental strategy for the 2018/19 financial year. The strategy addressed internal process review, audit and benchmarking, clinical engagement, data analytics and resource management. The aim was to start the transformation of the function from good to great. This webinar will detail their story from inception through to execution, grounded in their Trust OneNBT Digital Vision. •how the Trust significantly improved clinical coding in three pilot specialties •how the Trust is standardising its improvement methodology, with the support of their technology partners 3M with the aim of becoming a national exemplar •how coding has improved specifically in neurology To ensure that we can keep funding HFMA events, we often involve third party organisations and may share your forename, surname, job title and organisation on request.
