The Social Media Side of Incident Response: How prepared are you?

Presented by

About this talk

Everyone agrees that data breaches have become a statistical certainty. Very recently, it came to light that 6.5 millions of LinkedIn passwords were compromised. This made the news on 6th June and twitter was ablaze within minutes with information and speculation. Surprisingly, there was only one twitter announcement from LinkedIn a few hours into the day, and nothing on LinkedIn itself... That combined with the fact that incident response is currently one of the more popular topics of discussion, addressing the media in a timely manner is crucial. Whilst the draft NIST report SP 800-61 gives really good guidelines on the positive aspects of fully and effectively communicating important information to the public, there is still a lack of understanding of how to use social media when tackling incident response. So, should you be breached, you would no doubt have a crisis communication process already in place, but does it include social media..? In this session, we will present the three A3 (A cubed) to develop a successful social media crisis response strategy.
