Are bond markets right to be pricing in a recession?

Credit spreads have widened over recent quarters to the extent that they are now pricing in a level of defaults that would be consistent with a recession.

In contrast, equity markets have rallied strongly from the lows reached in the opening weeks of the year.

We assess why this dichotomy has arisen and whether bond or equity markets are a better reflection of economic reality.
