In this area the regulator requires you to do two things. Firstly to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of investment planning with regard to portfolio construction which should include: stock and fund selection, diversification by sector, geographical area and currency, main fund manager strategies and styles, costs, charges, ongoing charges (previously Total Expense Ratios), portfolio turnover rates, selection of products, tax wrapper and services, provider selection, due diligence and recommendations and suitability
The regulator then requires you to demonstrate the ability to analyse the performance of investments with regard to portfolio performance: methods of evaluating portfolio performance, selection and use of benchmarks and new money and timing factors.
This session focuses on these areas that impact investment companies.
