Fundamentals of Digital Asset Management

Digital Asset Management (DAM) is the art and practice of managing digital media, and more specifically, non-textual assets such as images, brand logos, videos and all things visual. It’s important to understand both the practice & technicalities of DAM, and in particular, what DAM technology is and how it really works.

Join Scott Abel, The Content Wrangler, and his special guest, Theresa Regli, Principal Analyst and Managing Partner with the Real Story Group, for this free, one-hour webinar. Theresa will walk webinar attendees through the fundamentals of DAM functionality. This webinar is appropriate for those who are new to DAM or end-users of a DAM system who want to have a deeper understanding of the different things a DAM system can do. Theresa will explore DAM functions such as ingestion, storage management, media processing, transformation, transcoding, metadata management, monetization and rights management, workflow, and reporting. At the end of this webinar, you'll have a solid understanding of the core components of DAM success, how to make a business case for DAM, and how DAM fits into the bigger picture of marketing technology.

In this webinar, you will learn:

    * What web analytics can and cannot tell about your content

    * How to capture meaningful content insights, including on content that doesn't exist yet

    * How to drive change and improvement from this information, not only to your content, but also to your entire organization

  • The Three Experiences That Count in Technical Writing Mar 16 2021 5:00 pm UTC 60 mins
    Steve Wiseman
Authoring. Reviewing. Customer Experience. How do these three things fit together? And what business impact do they have? Technical writing aims to make the complex simple, accurate, and accessible. The majority of content consumers wish to solve their queries on their own. Making self-service content available to consumers requires deployment of a multi-channel, multilingual, consistently structured knowledge base loaded with useful, easy-to-access, personalized content.

Well-designed knowledge bases also serve technical writers’ needs — making the creation and maintenance of technical product content simple and straightforward — an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that supports authoring, reviewing, publishing, updating, and archiving content. Creation of a best-of-breed knowledge base provides a feedback mechanism capable of ensuring that only approved information is available to the people and machines that need it.

When we make the authoring process faster, time-to-market is reduced, allowing us to deliver products for sale quickly. When the documentation review process is more manageable, errors are corrected quicker, improving the customer experience. When we enable customers to accomplish tasks independently, they turn to our knowledge base in times of need.

Successful technical writers must show decision-makers how all three experiences — authoring, reviewing, and customer experience — are connected. Technical writers are uniquely skilled to deliver on the process. After all - it is far more expensive to gain a new customer than to keep an existing one!

Join us for this presentation from Steve Wiseman, product evangelist for the component content management system, Paligo.

    Attendees will learn:

    1) How technical writing is deeply connected to a great Customer Experience
    2) Why CX will be the department that dominates every business
    3) What technical writers can do to reposition themselves with the key skills to be part of this shift

  • Beyond Google Analytics: How to Measure & Optimize Self-Service Content Recorded: Feb 17 2021 64 mins
Peggy Sanchez, Shimon Shoval, and Megan Gilhooly
When customers search for answers in your service portal or documentation site, they simply expect to find the information they’re looking for. But search isn’t magic – it depends on your site’s ability to recognize relevant content and provide personalized results.

Many companies use Google Analytics to gather basic data like what users are searching for, to what degree, and how long they spend on each page. More zealous teams may rely on a scrappy combination of tools to obtain data that can help them understand how people are using their content.

The problem is that Google Analytics is built for websites – not content portals. Since Google doesn’t actually host your content, and since your content may even live in multiple places, it’s practically impossible to gain the granular insights you need to drive our content strategy.

Join Peggy Sanchez, Senior Technical Publications Manager at Cray (a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company), Shimon Shoval, Senior Product Manager and analytics guru at Zoomin, and Megan Gilhooly, VP Customer Experience at Zoomin.

    In this webinar, you’ll learn:

    • What data you should use to optimize self-service and help users find answers faster

  • How To Dramatically Improve Documentation Team Efficiency Recorded: Jan 13 2021 63 mins
    Shannon McCue, Aristocrat Technologies
For writers who work in Agile software companies, it can be tough to carve out a place in the overall process. How do companies share writers as specialists across several development teams? How do technical writers function as members of Scrum or Kanban teams? Does it work?

Shannon McCue, Manager of Technical Communications at Aristocrat, gives you the top 4 pros and cons of working as embedded writers on multiple development teams, and explains the top 4 pros and cons of removing those writers from development teams to form a more efficient Agile technical writing team.

A technical writing veteran of 25 years, Shannon McCue is a manager, editor, and leader with a strong track record in creating thorough, usable documentation. At her current company, Aristocrat Technologies, Inc., she manages a technical writing team that writes casino video gaming documentation while immersed in the Agile framework. Over the last eight years, she has become more focused on process improvements, especially Scrum and Kanban methods, and how they can work for or against technical writers.
  • Automating the Creation of Video From Software Documentation Recorded: Jan 5 2021 54 mins
    Mark Hellinger
Producing video can be problematic (not all technical communication teams have the experience and the tools required to do it well), and the cost can be prohibitive. The frequency of content updates, localization and translation, and the need to produce documentation deliverables at scale exacerbate the challenges. Technology is beginning to provide us with solutions that can help us overcome these and other video-making challenges.

In this episode of "The Content Advantage," we introduce you to Mark Hellinger, Chief Marketing Officer at Videate, a software company that aims to make ubiquitous and straightforward the automatic assembly of software video from technical documentation content. We'll discuss the drivers that spur video adoption, how adding video to documentation can impact search engine optimization efforts, and how technology can be deployed to automatically create and update video documentation at scale.
