About this talk

Join us for this chat with metadata and taxonomy expert John Horodyski, author of the recently released book "Metadata Matters” (2022 CRC Press), a handbook exploring how metadata can inspire us to unlock the potential of our information. During this episode of Coffee and Content, we'll ask Horodyski to discuss the role of metadata related to the management and delivery of inclusive language. Horodyski believes that as more organizations adopt artificial intelligence to develop advanced content capabilities, it's critically important that metadata is put to work to remove race, gender, and other biases from the information we produce. If data is the language upon which our modern society is built, then metadata is the grammar, the construction of its meaning. As business needs, user needs, and language change, your metadata needs to adapt to stay relevant. John argues that appropriately designed and controlled metadata helps us better shape our world, bringing about needed changes that provide greater equality for all. Horodyski is an internationally known expert, thought leader, and executive with management experience in information/content/digital asset management, controlled vocabularies, metadata and taxonomy design, governance, and rights management. Takeaways 1) Metadata gives structure and meaning to data; it is all about access and defines your content journey 2) Metadata matters because it defines us at any given point in time with the best information available to us for content clarity 3) Metadata is about meaning and must change with societal norms in a respectful and inclusive manner Coffee and Content is brought to you by The Content Wrangler and sponsored by Heretto, an easy-to-use platform to create, manage, and personalize enterprise knowledge for any audience, channel, or language.
