About this talk

When Whitney Quesenbery left the world of UX research to co-found the nonprofit Center for Civic Design, she didn’t know that her background in user experience and clear communication would be such a central part of her work in civic design. It turns out that information that is easy to find, understand and use makes a difference to whether people can vote successfully. Join Whitney to learn how to: • Use content design and plain language to fight mis/disinformation • Transform simple forms and notices into invitations to participation • Use bites, snacks, and meals to structure complex legal information About Whitney Quesenbery Whitney works in civic design, bringing together her expertise in UX, plain language, accessibility, storytelling, and user research to creating election materials that invite participation in elections. She’s an STC Fellow, a former managing editor of the UXPA User Experience magazine, and career that included the National Cancer Institute, the Open University, and Amtrak. An authority on gathering user insights to design products where people matter–expertise gained in her work with government, nonprofit, and tech companies–she is the author of three books with practical advice in user experience: A Web for Everyone: Designing Accessible User Experiences; Storytelling for User Experience; and Global UX: Design and Research in a Connected World.
