Healthcare Does Hadoop - UC Irvine

In 2010 the Clinical Informatics Team at the University of California in Irvine, led by Charles Boicey, looked outside of the conventional Healthcare data ecosystem for new data management solutions - their existing Electronic Health Record and Enterprise Data Warehouse environments no longer met the organization’s needs. They researched "Big Data" technologies concluded that Hadoop could supplement their current ecosystem to solve existing use cases and act as a platform to develop new applications for future solutions.

Join Charles Boicey in the webinar as he covers the various new use cases made possible as the Hadoop ecosystem matures.

  • How to build Next Generation Analytics Applications using HDF 3.0 Recorded: Jul 20 2017 54 mins
    Sebastian Carroll, HDF Specialist, Hortonworks
To realize the full potential of modern data applications, organizations need to be able to capture perishable insights from data in motion. While flow management tools are available to help gather, route, filter and transform data from any source, companies have lacked equivalent tools for building the analytics apps needed to extract insight from streaming data.

Join this webinar as we discuss how to build next generation analytical application using HDF 3.0 very quickly.

Sebastian is an HDF specialist in Europe and has previously worked on Big Data and Software Engineering projects with Raytheon and Lockheed Martin in Australia. He first started using dataflow components such as NiFi three years ago and immediately felt the benefits that it brings and is now the go to data-in-motion evangelist at Hortonworks EMEA.

  • Your Self-Driving Car – How Did It Get So Smart? Recorded: Jun 29 2017 31 mins
Michael Ger, Hortonworks; Seunghan Han & Andreas Pawlik, NorCom
The march towards autonomous vehicles continues to accelerate. While expert opinion differs on the specific timing and use cases that will emerge first, few deny that self-driving cars are in our future.

As we all can appreciate, “teaching” a vehicle to drive under the full range of conditions it will encounter (i.e. road conditions, weather conditions, behavior of other vehicles) is a daunting proposition. If merely the thought of this makes you nervous, you’re not alone – according to the American Automobile Association (AAA), 75 percent of consumers are not yet ready to embrace self-driving cars. However, that is the very challenge facing automakers – teaching vehicles to unfailingly assess and respond to any combination of operational conditions “on-the-fly” through discrete rules (algorithms) governing a vehicle’s behavior.

Join Hortonworks and NorCom at the upcoming webinar as we discuss:

    •Evolution of the autonomous driving
•Traditional data management approaches and main challenges associated with them
•How NorCom and Hortonworks can address those challenges and accelerate the pace of autonomous development
