Misclassifying the Independent Contractor- A Costly Mistake

Presented by

About this talk

Given the hard economic times, businesses have considered many methods by which to lower their costs and overhead. One method used by employers is to attempt to avoid hiring employees by hiring independent contractors to do the same work. What these employers fail to realize, however, is that just by calling an individual an independent contractor does not mean that individual truly meets the criteria for that classification. Instead, many employers are paying expensive penalties for their misclassification of independent contractors. This educational Webinar will provide employers with the information they need to accurately and appropriately determine whether the individual they hire is actually an employee or an independent contractor and to avoid those unnecessary and costly penalities that are assessed for misclassification. You will learn: • What is an independent contractor? • What are the advantages and disadvantages of independent contractors? • How do you determine whether an individual is an employee or an independent contractor? • How do you protect yourself from the dangers of misclassification?
